Overview
USS Albacore (AGSS-569) is a retired, unique research submarine that pioneered the American version of the teardrop hull form, sometimes called an "Albacore hull", of modern submarines. The revolutionary design was derived from extensive hydrodynamic and wind tunnel testing, with an emphasis on underwater speed and maneuverability. She was the third vessel of the United States Navy to be named for the albacore.

As a legendary, record-breaking research submarine safely dry-docked entirely on land, the inner steel torpedo rooms and control decks are remarkably compact; an early morning arrival allows you to undertake the audio-guided hatch tour comfortably before queues form inside the hull.
Getting ThereLocated in north Portsmouth at 600 Market Street. Driving is effortless: from I-95 Exit 7, follow Market Street north toward the shipyard pass for a half-mile; the colossal black submarine hull is highly visible on the left side of the highway, fronted by its own high-capacity, free paved asphalt guest parking plaza outside the naval gate.
