Overview
The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is an art museum located in Baltimore, Maryland's Federal Hill neighborhood at 800 Key Highway. The museum specializes in the preservation and display of outsider art (also known as "intuitive art," "raw art," or "art brut"). The city agreed to give the museum a piece of land on the south shore of the Inner Harbor under the condition that its organizers would clean up residual pollution from a copper paint factory and a whiskey warehouse that formerly occupied the site.

Best TimeA clear afternoon between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM is spectacular for visiting. The main building’s exterior is wrapped in a massive mosaic of broken mirrors, which catches the high afternoon sun and causes the entire building to shimmer brilliantly against Federal Hill's grassy backdrop.
Getting ThereNestled at the base of Federal Hill along the harbor. Walk about 15 minutes south from the Inner Harbor along Key Highway, or hop on the free Charm City Circulator (Banner Route) and disembark at the Key Highway & Covington St stop, positioned right by the museum entry.
