Overview

The Boise Depot is a former train station built by the Union Pacific Railroad and opened in 1925 in Boise, Idaho, United States. At an elevation of 2,753 feet (839 m) above sea level on the rim of the first bench, the depot overlooks Capitol Boulevard and the Idaho State Capitol, one mile (1.6 km) to the northeast. The station building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Best TimeMay through October is the peak window when the historical Platt Gardens fountains are operating and the roses are blooming. The single best photographic hour is 40 minutes before sunset. Standing on the elevated plaza of this 1925 Spanish Mission-style railroad depot offers a dramatic, aligned view of Capitol Blvd leading to the Capitol.

Getting TherePerched dramatically on the rim at the south end of Capitol Blvd. Take VRT Bus Route 3, 4, or 43 directly to the Capitol Blvd & W Crescent Rim Dr station stop. A massive public parking lot sits directly in front of the historic building and is free of charge. Note that the interior and bell tower are only open Sundays and Mondays.
