Delaware Seashore State Park is a public recreation area located near Dewey Beach in Delaware, United States. It is bounded on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by Rehoboth Bay and Indian River Bay. The park covers 2,722 acres (1,102 ha).

Best TimeEarly autumn (September to October) is spectacular as coastal crowds dissipate but the surf stays warm. The ultimate hour is 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM near the massive Indian River Inlet Bridge; the sunset framing the suspension bridge, salt marshes, and raw Atlantic waves creates postcard-perfect views.
Getting ThereSpanning a massive barrier island along DE-1 between Lewes and Bethany Beach; a car is required. The park flanks both sides of DE-1, offering huge dedicated state park paid lots. During summer months, DART Beach Bus Route 208 travels the coastal highway, stopping right at the primary inlet day-use zones.
Travel Tips
- Out-of-state registered vehicles entering between March 1 and November 30 must purchase and display a Daily Park Pass ($10 for non-residents) at entrance booths or Automated Fee Machines. Parking along road shoulders without displaying a valid pass triggers immediate citations and towing by state park rangers.
- The federal America the Beautiful Pass is explicitly invalid for drive-on beach access. Drivers must secure a dedicated state-issued Surf Fishing Permit online months in advance via the Delaware State Parks portal; vehicles are legally required to carry a tow strap, functional jack, and a tire pressure gauge.
- The Indian River Inlet area underneath the bridge generates highly deceptive, hyper-fatal rip currents and undertows due to extreme tidal volumes; swimming is strictly banned here. Aquatic activity must be confined to lifeguarded zones at North Beach and South Beach during active summer hours only.

- Certain undeveloped beach areas have absolutely no shade or lifeguard patrols, requiring extra safety caution with kids.
- Greenhead flies can be quite aggressive and bite on the beach at times, severely ruined the sunbathing experience.
- Except near the bridge, most areas have no food concessions, requiring you to pack your own food and water.
