Getting ThereThere is no direct Metro station. Take the Metro Red Line to Dupont Circle, transfer to the D4 or D6 bus to the corner of 31st St and Q St, and then walk north into the historic Georgetown neighborhood.
Travel Tips
- The Museum (Byzantine/Pre-Columbian art) and the Gardens are managed under completely separate rules. The Museum is free year-round; however, the historic Gardens require a paid admission ticket during peak season (March 15 – October 31). Gardens are strictly closed on Mondays.
- Bags larger than 11x14 inches are entirely barred from both the museum and gardens, and no cloakroom is provided. The gardens strictly prohibit outside food, flavored drinks, tripods, and selfie sticks. Only transparent bottles of plain water are permitted past the gate check.
- The estate sits on a steep hill in upper Georgetown with no direct Metro access (Dupont Circle is a grueling 25-minute uphill walk). Street parking is restricted to local residential zone permits. Take the D4 or G2 Metrobus to 31st St or rideshare directly to the R Street gates.
