Overview
The Morris Island Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Morris Island in South Carolina. The light stands on the southern side of the entrance to Charleston Harbor, north of the City of Folly Beach. At 161 ft (49 m), it is the tallest lighthouse in South Carolina.

Getting TherePerched out in the Atlantic surf off the northern tip of Folly Island; no public transit extends here. Drive south via SC-171 S to Folly Beach, turn left onto East Ashley Avenue, and follow it north to its absolute dead-end perimeter. Park along the designated street turnouts and take a scenic 15-minute walk down the maritime forest footpaths.

- The lighthouse is entirely stranded in open water with zero bridge, boardwalk, or vehicular land access. The exclusive terrestrial viewpoint sits at the northeastern terminus of Folly Beach (Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve), requiring a grueling 0.5-mile soft sand trek from the lot.
- The preserve beach is prone to semi-diurnal tidal shifts; rising waters submerge escape routes and marsh borders within 20 minutes. To capture mirror reflections at dawn, cross-reference local low tide charts; never venture deep into unsolidified low-tide plash mud.
- Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the water perimeter is patrolled by the USCG and SCDNR. Utilizing private kayaks or paddleboards to land on the rock base or drone operation under 500 feet near the tower structure initiates immediate federal criminal booking.

- This is a completely undeveloped area. There are no restrooms, trash cans, benches, or shaded structures on-site. You must pack in all supplies and pack out trash.
- Access is highly inconvenient. You can only park on the street at the far north end of Folly Beach, followed by a long, unshaded trek over a sandy trail to see the lighthouse.
- The bugs and sand flies on the beach are vicious, particularly on windless days. Without adequate skin protection, you'll be bitten painfully within minutes.
