Mount Soledad rises majestically above the coastal city of La Jolla, offering one of the most comprehensive and visually stunning 360-degree viewpoints in all of Southern California. On a clear day, visitors standing at the mountain's peak can look north to the mountains of Orange County and south across the international border into Tijuana, Mexico. The summit is crowned by a massive, historic concrete cross and surrounded by thousands of touching black granite plaques honoring American military veterans.

Getting ThereDriving is strongly advised. Wind up via Soledad Mountain Road to reach the summit, where a massive free public parking lot surrounds the historic memorial cross. Public transit to this hilltop location is highly impractical.
Travel Tips
- The mountaintop veterans memorial is a solemn site; loud behavior, amplified music, climbing on plaque walls, and flying recreational drones are strictly prohibited. Park security patrolling the summit will fine drone operators and seize equipment.
- The mountain access road via Via Capri is exceptionally steep with aggressive hairpin turns. When descending, manually shift your vehicle into a lower gear to utilize engine braking; do not ride your brakes continuously to prevent dangerous pad overheating.
