Overview
Rocky Mountain National Park is a national park of the United States located approximately 55 mi (89 km) northwest of Denver in north-central Colorado, within the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The park is situated between the towns of Estes Park to the east and Grand Lake to the west. The eastern and western slopes of the Continental Divide run directly through the center of the park with the headwaters of the Colorado River located in the park's northwestern region.

- The famous Trail Ridge Road exceeds 11,000 feet. Even in peak summer months, mountain passes face fierce winds, dropping temperatures, and severe afternoon thunderstorms. Hikers must descend below the tree line before 12:00 PM daily to dodge active lightning hazard.
- Parking lots at Bear Lake and Glacier Gorge trailheads regularly fill up by 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM in high season. Roadside shoulder parking or driving onto grass triggers instant federal citations and towing; utilize the Park & Ride lot to board the free shuttle instead.
