Best TimeWidely regarded as the ultimate Teton sunrise photography location. Arrive before 6:00 AM from August to September to catch the beaver ponds reflecting the jagged ridge line in dead calm waters, often with moose wading nearby.
Getting ThereLocated on the west side of US-191/89/26, just north of Moose Junction. Turn off the main highway at the Schwabacher Landing sign onto a dirt road and follow it to the end. Low-clearance cars should drive with caution.
Travel Tips
- The access road is a 1-mile unpaved, steep dirt path with severe potholes that turn muddy after rain; low-clearance sedans risk undercarriage damage. AWD/high-clearance vehicles are recommended. This access road is completely locked and closed in winter.
- Situated directly along Snake River wetlands, this spot has intense mosquito activity in summer. Standard insect repellents often fail during dawn/dusk shoots; use high-concentration DEET or Picaridin-based professional sprays and wear long pants.

- Being next to wetlands and stagnant water, the mosquito population is terrifying; standing still is impossible without heavy-duty repellent.
- Because it is kept completely wild, there are no modern restrooms or trash cans; you must pack out all your garbage.
