Practical Info

Every day9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Suggested Duration1.5-2 hours
Best TimeA magnificent year-round open-air family farm hidden deep in the hills, world-famous for its artisan wax-wrapped sharp cheddar cheeses and pure maple syrup samplings. Entering right at the 9:00 AM opening on a weekday morning during autumn is highly recommended; lower crowd density lets you sample aging wheels freely and hike the maple-tapping pipeline trails in crisp forest silence.
Getting ThereTucked inside an extremely remote, isolated mountain ridge northeast of Woodstock at 591 Sugarbush Farm Rd. No train or bus links exist, and cellular signal is dead; note that long RVs are strictly legally banned due to narrow, steep unpaved gravel hills and tight blind switchbacks. Drive US-4 E, turn onto River Rd, and navigate Cloudland Road dirt tracks for 3 bumpy miles to their free gravel lot.

Travel Tips

  • The final 3 miles via Hill Road consist of narrow, unpaved gravel switchbacks; 4WD or AWD is critical during the winter snow and spring mud seasons.
  • Oversized RVs, tour buses, and trailers exceeding 25 feet frequently get stuck on the narrow access curves; long-wheelbase vehicles should not attempt entry.
  • The sampling room offers complimentary cheese and syrup tasting but has very tight quarters; pets are banned inside retail buildings, except certified service dogs.

Reviews

Positive
  • A raw private farm hidden deep in Woodstock's mountain woods; the rural roads along the way are classically pure, a true New England hidden haven with healing views.
  • The fun is incredibly pure; they generously offer free tastings of a dozen house-made aged cheddar cheeses and pure syrups, with staff explaining the artisan craft.
  • The farm is completely free to enter with no pushy sales or entry fees; buying a whole block of wax-sealed cheese is wallet-friendly, making it a high-value gem.
  • The site is orderly; you can see the active network of maple sap tubing tap lines, beautifully preserving original peace free of fake commercial gimmicks.
Heads up
  • The final miles of driving consist of a very narrow, steep, unpaved bumpy dirt and gravel mountain backroad, challenging oncoming passes and testing car clearance in mud season.
  • The location is extremely isolated; all public transit and shuttles are completely unavailable, and cell service drops into total dead zones across wide forest areas.
  • Operating as a small family farm, modern lifestyle amenities are minimal, featuring only a simple single-room restroom and lacking standardized accessible pathways.
  • If multiple large SUV road-trippers visit simultaneously, parking in the limited clearing gets a bit chaotic, and the narrow shop interior becomes completely blocked.
