Overview
The Union Pacific Railroad Company (reporting marks UP, UPP, UPY) is a Class I freight-hauling railroad that operates 8,300 locomotives over 32,200 miles (51,800 km) routes in 23 U.S. states west of Chicago and New Orleans. Union Pacific is the second-largest railroad in the United States after BNSF. Founded in 1862, the original Union Pacific Rail Road was part of the first transcontinental railroad project, later known as the Overland Route. Over the next century, UP absorbed the Missouri Pacific Railroad, the Western Pacific Railroad, the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad and the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.

Getting ThereLocated right in the historic heart of downtown Council Bluffs at 200 Pearl St. Drivers should exit I-80 at Exit 3, take West Broadway east, and turn right onto Pearl St for two blocks. The museum operates a large, fully complimentary visitor parking lot directly on-site. Alternatively, ride the Omaha MAT bus transit network, get off along Broadway, and walk 8 minutes.
Travel Tips
- Operating hours are highly restrictive, with access limited strictly to Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 (with seasonal Sunday afternoons through Labor Day); walk-ups on other days will face locked gates.
