Almo is a small, historic unincorporated rural community located in southern Cassia County, Idaho, nestled in a high-elevation alpine valley flanked by the Albion Mountains. Established in the late 19th century by stock ranchers and homesteaders, its geographic location made it a famous resting point on the alternative California Trail route known as the Salt Lake Cutoff. Today, Almo serves as the vital, rustic civilian gateway community for the adjacent City of Rocks National Reserve, characterized by high-desert sagebrush pastures and dramatic granite towers.
