Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park protects a dramatic, narrow gorge carved deeply into ancient Precambrian rock by the wild Gunnison River. Known for its vertical, sheer black walls that receive very little sunlight, the canyon plunges up to 2,700 feet, showcasing some of the steepest cliffs and oldest exposed rock faces in North America.
