Burlington is a historic, architecture-rich manufacturing and riverport city beautifully built atop towering bluffs overlooking a wide expanse of the upper Mississippi River. Established in 1833 shortly after the Black Hawk Purchase, the city served briefly as the historic first capital of the Wisconsin Territory and later the Iowa Territory. Burlington is internationally famous for its dramatic topographical engineering marvels and features sprawling residential historic districts lined with magnificent mid-19th-century brick and limestone robber-baron mansions.
