It serves almost exclusively as the immediate gateway to the magnificent Capulin Volcano National Monument, an exceptionally well-preserved, extinct cinder cone volcano that dramatically disrupts the surrounding high-plains horizon. Rising over 8,000 feet above sea level, this geologically recent landmark provides an incredible vantage point from which visitors can witness the immense scale of past tectonic upheavals.
