Dell City is a tiny, highly isolated rural agricultural oasis located in Hudspeth County within the stark, wind-bleached salt flat basins of far western Texas, positioned right against the southern foothills of the Guadalupe Mountains. The town newly burst into existence in the late 1940s following the miraculous discovery of a massive, pure underground aquifer hidden deep beneath the Chihuahuan Desert, which instantly transformed a barren desert into a flourishing farming valley growing rich alfalfa, chili peppers, and cotton. Today, despite its shrinking population and deep remote prairie isolation, Dell City maintains an authentic frontier hardworking identity, serving as the ultimate, uncommercialized western gateway for intrepid hikers exploring the rugged high peaks and fossilized limestone reefs of the nearby national park.
