Easton is a dynamic, historic city serving as the county seat of Northampton County, beautifully positioned at the scenic confluence of the Delaware and Lehigh rivers on the New Jersey border. Founded in 1752 by Thomas Penn, the city holds a legendary place in American history as one of only three locations where the Declaration of Independence was publicly read aloud in July 1776. During the Industrial Revolution, Easton blossomed into an immense shipping powerhouse fueled by extensive canal systems and anthracite coal transport. Today, the city has masterfully transformed its historic core into a vibrant culinary, artistic, and educational center, anchored by Lafayette College and globally celebrated as the birthplace of Crayola crayons.
