El Dorado is a historic Southern boomtown located in the timberlands of southern Arkansas near the border with Louisiana. The city's destiny was irrevocably reshaped in 1921 when the Busey No. 1 well struck oil, causing an overnight influx of thousands of wildcatters and establishing the town as the epicenter of the Arkansas oil boom. Today, its beautifully restored historic downtown square anchors a revitalized city center that blends its heavy petrochemical heritage with a vibrant, newly developed multi-million dollar arts and entertainment district.
