Fort Laramie is a historic town and landmark site in eastern Wyoming, positioned at the strategic confluence of the Laramie and North Platte rivers. Established originally as a private fur-trading post named Fort William in 1834, it evolved into the single most important military outpost in the Northern Plains. Throughout the mid-19th century, it served as an essential staging ground, protection base, and resupply hub for hundreds of thousands of emigrants moving west along the Oregon, California, and Mormon trails.
