Logan, Ohio

The Gateway to Hocking Hills

About this city

Also known as: The Gateway to Hocking Hills

Logan is an historic, nature-dominated city serving as the county seat of Hocking County, beautifully positioned along the winding Hocking River in the rugged Appalachian foothills of southeastern Ohio. Formally established in 1816 by Ohio Governor Thomas Worthington and named in honor of the celebrated Mingo tribal chief Logan, the town long long expanded as a roaring powerhouse for Gilded Age furnace smelting, coal transshipment, and high-strength clay brick production. Today, with the old factories gone, Logan has completely redefined itself as the premier, highly legendary adventure hub and basecamp for exploring the world-renowned Hocking Hills State Park region. The city preserves an immaculate Victorian brick downtown that stands as a bustling, friendly gateway to deep hemlock canyons, cascading wilderness waterfalls, and massive prehistoric recess caves.
