Formally incorporated as a city in 1867, Meriden earned the international moniker 'The Silver City' due to its status as the global epicenter of silverware manufacturing during the 19th and 20th centuries, home to the International Silver Company. The city is geographically striking, framed by the dramatic, rugged basalt cliffs of the Metacomet Ridge, including East Peak and West Peak.
