About this city
Mystic is a world-famous historic maritime village located in southeastern Connecticut, uniquely straddling the Mystic River between the towns of Groton and Stonington in New London County. Settled in 1654, it grew into one of New England's premier shipbuilding and whaling capitals during the 19th century, launching over 600 clipper ships and vessels. Mystic is internationally celebrated for its living history museum, Mystic Seaport, which meticulously preserves a 19th-century seafaring village, historic wooden tall ships, and maritime crafts.
