Nageezi is a tiny, remote rural chapter community located in San Juan County within the vast, windswept high deserts of northwestern New Mexico, deeply situated within the Navajo Nation. The settlement serves primarily as an essential, rugged wilderness outpost and the closest logistical jump-off point for intrepid travelers venturing into the world-renowned Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The surrounding landscape is a stark expanse of eroding clay badlands, grand sandstone mesas, and dramatic horizons that have remained unchanged for millennia. Due to its extreme isolation, Nageezi offers an authentic glimpse into contemporary Navajo rural life, characterized by sparse homesteads, traditional livestock herding, and some of the darkest, most pristine night skies remaining in North America.
