Pecos is a historic, scenic mountain village located in San Miguel County in northern New Mexico, beautifully nestled along the pristine upper waters of the Pecos River in the forested foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Long before Spanish contact, this geographic crossroads was home to the Pecos Pueblo, a powerful indigenous trading fortress that bridged the farming cultures of the Rio Grande with the nomadic buffalo hunters of the Great Plains. Later, Spanish colonists built monumental Franciscan missions here, and in 1862, the nearby Glorieta Pass became the site of a pivotal Civil War battle. Today, the village blends centuries of rich multi-cultural history with world-class trout fly-fishing and beautiful high-alpine wilderness exploration.
