Pick City is an historic, leisure-centric rural community located in Mercer County in west-central North Dakota, beautifully positioned atop the dramatic bluffs overlooking the eastern edge of the colossal Garrison Dam and the roaring waters of the Missouri River. Founded in the late 1940s as a newly planned construction town, it was built specifically to house the massive influx of engineers, workers, and heavy equipment operators who labored to build the Garrison Dam, one of the largest earthen dams on Earth. Following the dam's completion, Pick City reinvented itself into North Dakota's premier recreational oasis. Surrounded by vast water bodies, the town acts as the primary northern gateway to the immense Lake Sakakawea, drawing sport fishermen, yacht owners, and outdoor enthusiasts.
