The bloody 1863 Siege of Vicksburg led by Union General Grant ended in a decisive northern victory that permanently split the South and altered world history. Today, Vicksburg stands as a world-class tourism and engineering capital, hosting the expansive U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center while preserving a beautiful historic brick riverfront downtown.
