Hot Springs, Arkansas

The American Spa

About this city

Also known as: The American Spa

Hot Springs is a legendary, high-luxury spa resort metropolis beautifully enveloped by the zigzagging ridges of the Ouachita Mountains in central Arkansas. Formed around 47 thermal springs that pump nearly a million gallons of pristine, mineral-rich water daily, the area was protected by the federal government in 1832, predating the modern concept of national parks. During the early 20th century, Hot Springs transformed into a glamorous, neon-lit safe haven for notorious mobsters, championship spring-training baseball teams, and elite Victorian vacationers.
